Helde of the kindergarten children: Wall Seger saved from emergency rescue!
Steinabrückl, Niederösterreich, Österreich - On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, a remarkable rescue mission was carried out in Steinabrückl, Lower Austria, in which a trapped wall sailor was released. The prehistory begins in kindergarten Wassergasse when children noticed a moving "black point" on the roof edge of a neighboring building. Her attention led directly to the alarm of the Steinabrückl volunteer fire brigade, which quickly went into action.
Due to the height of the building, a lifting device from the Wiener Neustadt fire brigade was also requested to facilitate the rescue of the bird. The firefighters were finally able to free the wall sailor over the basket of the lifting device. Despite the tense mission, the bird showed no external injuries and could be safely handed over to the “A Heart for Wild Animals” on the ground. The duration of the mission was one hour and was an example of effective cooperation between the two fire brigades, which came with a total of two vehicles and nine members.
a contribution to species protection
The rescue of the wall sailor is not only a locally important event, but also throws a light on general species protection in Austria. Around 46,000 animal species live here, 581 of which are endemic, so only occur in this country. WWF Austria has been committed to preserving this biological diversity for many decades and has launched various projects in recent years to bring endangered species back to nature.
The return of species such as Wolf and otter also resulted in conflicts between humans and animals, which represents another focus of the WWF: the need to increase acceptance among the population in order to avoid conflicts and to secure the species stocks. In particular, the "WWF Big 5" - beaver, otter, lynx, wolf and sea eagle - are at the center of these efforts. These flagship species are crucial for the balance of habitats and earn special protection.
Overall, the use in Steinabrückl shows not only the efficiency of the fire brigade and the commitment of kindergarten children, but also the importance of a lively awareness of species protection in society. The rescue of the wall sailor is a small, but significant step in a greater struggle against the disappearance of endangered animal species in Austria
