Green youth removed swastika-start of the Pride-Month in Dornbirn!

In the night of Sunday, June 1, 2025, the Green Youth and the Greens started an important campaign in Dornbirn. They removed swastika graffiti, which had been attached to a rainbow zebra crossing by strangers on the previous weekend. The aim of the campaign was to commit the beginning of the Pride-Month without such symbols of hate speech. According to Mia Soma Faltejsek, the spokeswoman for the Green Youth, a rapid removal of the swastikas was expected through the city. Samuel Moosmann, spokesman for the Greens the other way around, also recalled the historical persecution of Queerer people through the Nazis, which underlines the urgency of this measure.

The night implementation was necessary because there was too much traffic on the street during the day to safely carry out the cleaning. In the meantime, the city police investigated the unknown perpetrators for re -activation. Pictures of the campaign have already been published by the Green Youth to draw attention to this incident.

Pride Month: A symbol of visibility

June is known worldwide as Pride Month, a month that stands for the visibility and equality of the queer community. The origins of this movement go back to 1969, when the Stonewall tuning took place in New York and are considered the turning point in the struggle for the rights of LGBTQ+person. In Hamburg, too, June is all about the Pride anniversary with numerous events.

In Berlin, numerous activities are also organized that promote the exchange in the queer community and offer space for younger members. The website Queere Jugend Berlin informs about upcoming events, group meetings, demos and many other offers. This includes a solo (flea) market that takes place on the same day, June 1, 2025, from 11 a.m. in a youth center in Berlin.

These actions and events illustrate the constant struggle for acceptance, equality and visibility of the queer community in all parts of society. The removal of the swastika in Dornbirn is a strong sign for the beginning of a month that stands for positive changes and the celebration of diversity.
