Large deployment in Vienna: The Mall” forces bomb threat to evacuate

On Tuesday afternoon, around 5:30 p.m., the shopping center "The Mall" in Vienna Mitte (3rd district) was evacuated due to a bomb threat. The security service had previously informed the police about a threatening phone call, whereupon numerous police forces were deployed and blocked the shopping center. All visitors and employees had to leave the building as quickly as possible, while many people were waiting for news in front of the closed doors. Exxpress reports that the investigation regarding the threatening call is still in progress.

The police carried out a comprehensive search of the shopping center in order to rule out possible sources of danger. At 7:06 p.m., the police finally reported that the operation was completed and that no immediate danger was found. She thanked the population for the good cooperation during the mission, which could be handled quickly and professionally despite the tense situation, as well as rbb24 explains .

It is particularly worrying that many of the current threats included references to Islamist Hamas and the Ukraine conflict. Investigations into the identity of the perpetrators run in many cases, and whether there is a connection between the incidents is still unclear.

The events in Vienna and elsewhere show how sensitive the handling of such threats is and how important the cooperation between the public and the authorities remains in crisis situations.
