Family allowance 2025: fixed payment and higher amounts for families!
As of June 6, 2025, a new payout system for family allowance comes into force, which is intended to enable families to plan more. From now on, the family allowance will take place at a fixed payment date, at the latest on the eighth day of each month. This applies to all transfers in the SEPA payment space, regardless of weekends or public holidays. Family Minister Claudia Plakolm underlines the advantages of this new regulation, which enable more reliable handling of government services through technological developments.
The changes that will become effective from 2025 do not only refer to the payment date. This increases the family allowance. For children under 10 years, the amount increases to EUR 217.20 per month (so far 202.60 euros). For children between the ages of 10 and 18, the aid is raised to EUR 263 (previously 249.60 euros), while for children from the age of 19, the new set is 293.10 euros (previously 277.80 euros).
introductions and abolitions
Another important aspect is the abolition of the previous childcare allowance. Instead, a new parental allowance is introduced, which is due to both parents after birth and is 80 % of the net income, payable for 12 months. These changes form the part of a comprehensive package of measures to support families that will be implemented from 2025.
In addition, a uniform child allowance is introduced, the amount of which is raised to 2,000 euros. This allowance is independent of the marital status of the parents, which is a relief for many families. The sibling bonus is also increased and will be 150 euros per month for each additional child.
application and automatic calculation
The application for family allowances will take place online from 2025 via the social security website. This significantly simplifies the process for the parents. Social insurance takes over the automatic calculation and payment of the aid, which promises to be relieved for many applicants.
With these comprehensive changes, the government aims to meet the needs of families and to improve financial support in the decisive phase of child rearing. The information page of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth also contains basic details on the new family services and the technical implementation of the aid that should contribute to optimizing state services.
