Families of IS fighters can return: New glimmer of hope!
Al-Hol, Syrien - The transitional government in Syria has taken a significant step towards the return of members of fighters of the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS). In an agreement with the Kurdish militias in the northeast of the country, a new mechanism was developed to enable families from IS members to leave the al-Holz camp. This can be seen from a report by Oe24
The camp al-Holz, which is under the control of the Syrian democratic forces (SDF) operating on the Kurdish side, houses around 37,000 people. Most of them are family members of IS fighters, with around 6,000 inmates from other countries. The situation on site is particularly worrying: the conditions in the camp are considered catastrophic, with an acute lack of food, water, medical care and sanitary facilities. Aid organizations describe al-Holz as a prison in which many women and children are exposed to violence and the ideology of IS.
security measures in the warehouse
The Kurdish-guided security forces in al-Holm have taken measures to identify and exclude IS supporters. This operation is to be carried out in particular after several violent incidents, including at least 41 deaths this year, in which 30 Iraqi refugees were killed. A report by BBC describes that on the first day of this campaign, in which around 5,000 members of the security forces were involved, including an IS-IS-BUFT.
The camp is also affected by the financial bottlenecks. The warehouse manager Jihan Hanan emphasizes that the end of financial support could lead to a "disaster" that ends up in danger of the basic care of the inmates. The Federal Government has already hired projects to support the camp, which further exacerbates the situation, as ZDF
return and international responsibility
The return only affects Syrian citizens and their relatives. Foreign fighters and their families are excluded from the regulation. Kurdish self -administration appeals to the countries of origin to fulfill their moral and legal responsibility and to consider the return of their citizens, including many women and children. There are 13 German women and children in the Al-Hol-Ware itself, while in prisons in Northeast Syria over 11,000 IS members, including Germans, are detained.
The federal government has recovered 27 women, 80 children and an adolescent from Syria. Among the arrested IS supporters there are also two Germans who claim that they have not fought for IS and want to return. However, the situation in the warehouse, together with the threat of ideological indoctrination and violence, remains extremely tense and requires urgent measures in the international community.
