Fee-counter scandal in Naples: 40 convictions and multi-million dollar raid
In Naples, a sensational process against members of a criminal association has led 40 convictions. The accused is accused of being part of an organization that specializes in the spread of fake euro money. Some of the members are also accused of extensive extortion. A total of 48 people are in custody, while 14 are under house arrest. Another person was banned from staying for the city of Naples. The main location for the sale of the counterfeit banknotes was an apartment in the city center, which served as a logistics center and sales point, reports Kleine Zeitung .
The Italian authorities have confiscated almost one million fake 50-euro notes in a raid in a Naples printing house, which corresponds to a total of around 48 million euros. In the event of a further arrest, the alleged leader of the gang of money, which is an offshoot of the notorious Napoli group, was caught. These investigations have been running for a long time. The fake notes were printed in the offset process, which enables higher quality than digital pressure. Investigators from Rome were also involved in the raid at dawn, such as NumBeo Show.
The crime rate in Italy is recorded in the current ranking of Numbo with an index value of 46.95 and is therefore in midfield compared to other countries. Such statistics illustrate the challenges that the Italian authorities are faced with while trying to act against criminal activities such as counterfeiting fraud. The country has to deal with international pressure and the need to improve its security measures and to protect civil society.
