Railway renovation on Laxenburger Straße: Transport chaos threatens!
In the 23rd district of Vienna, important roadway renovation work begins on May 22, 2025 in Laxenburger Straße. These measures focus on the section between Vorarlberg Allee and shortly after the intersection with Josef-Prangl-Straße. The work is necessary to improve road quality and fix damage to the road. This was announced by the city of Vienna, which also explained the working time regulations for the renovation. The construction activities are mainly carried out at the weekend, whereby the work begins at 7 a.m. on Fridays and ends at 5 a.m. on Mondays. During the construction period, a lane remains open to traffic to keep the impairments for road users as low as possible. However, the entrance to the side lane in the intersection of Josef-Prangl-Gasse is closed, while access to the wholesale market via Laxenburger Straße 365 remains possible. The planned end of the renovation work is planned for June 9, 2025 at 5 a.m.
Additional renovation work on Laxenburger Straße is planned for the period from June 7 to June 21, 2025. This work takes place in the evening and night hours from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., a step that was taken to minimize the effects on traffic during the day. The section, which is being renovated during this period, extends between Landgutgasse and Gudrunstraße. Here, too, the focus is on the removal of time damage to the road. The traffic is guided through the directional tram tracks during this work.

This study deals with the current and future challenges of European urban development, such as the climate crisis and socio -demographic change. It emphasizes the need for an integrated approach that takes into account all spatial levels and promotes their interlinking. The connection between infrastructure care and the overarching development goals of the city becomes clear, which also has an impact on the quality of the urban living environment. For more information on these trends and strategies, reference is made to the BBSR study, which delivers comprehensive analyzes on urban topics.
