EU Commission threatens countries: Deadline for deficiencies in legislation is running!
The European Commission has recently launched infringement proceedings against several Member States, including Austria, due to inadequate implementation of key EU rules. According to a report from the vienna.at Austria must respond to the complaints within two months, in particular due to the deficiencies in the implementation of the Free Movement Directive and the Data Governance Act. This affects, among other things, the prior checks for professions and the rights of family members of EU citizens, which are not sufficiently granted in Austria. If no satisfactory answer is given, the Commission could issue a reasoned opinion.
In addition, the Commission announced that not only Austria, but also nine other EU states, such as Bulgaria and Croatia, are under pressure because they have not fulfilled their reporting obligations for EU water and environmental protection legislation. These urgent calls come as part of the Commission's ongoing commitment to ensuring the correct application of EU law to protect the interests of citizens and businesses, as outlined in the report by luxembourg.representation.ec.europa.eu is explained.
Another key point of discussion revolves around the poor implementation of the Seveso III directive, which prescribes safety regulations for industrial plants. Austria also has some catching up to do here, as the legislation does not comply with EU requirements, which does not adequately address potentially dangerous accidents. As noted in the report, deficiencies in these areas could also lead to legal consequences if the necessary adjustments are not made within the established time frame.
