Drug dealers in sight: Five arrests in Lower Austria and Styria!
Five suspected drug dealers from the regions of Lower Austria and Styria were recently arrested. The investigation focused on suspects from the Neunkirchen and Hartberg-Fürstenfeld districts who were suspected of selling illegal drugs. During the arrests, a total drug value of around 384,000 euros was found, with 200,000 euros being herbal cannabis alone, 180,000 euros being cocaine and 4,000 euros being ecstasy tablets.
According to vienna.at, the suspects were transferred to the Wiener Neustadt prison after their arrest, while criminal charges were filed with the public prosecutor's office against a total of 28 buyers.
The investigation had its origins in the case of a 27-year-old man from Hartberg-Fürstenfeld, who was arrested on February 19th together with two other men (28 and 37 years old) from Neunkirchen. The trio is said to have sold drugs in Lower Austria, Styria and also Burgenland. During house searches, around 330 grams of cannabis herb and eight grams of cocaine were seized. In the following months, a 23-year-old suspected cocaine dealer and a 33-year-old man who is said to have dealt in cannabis herb were also arrested. Here too, house searches were necessary in the Neunkirchen district.
Sales channels and drug balance
In total, the five men are accused of selling around 20 kilos of cannabis, around 500 ecstasy tablets and around 2.25 kilos of cocaine. Three of the five accused persons confessed, while two refused to testify. These frightening figures demonstrate a worrying trend in the drug trade in Austria.
The situation is also covered in the current “Report on the drug situation in Austria”. This report is prepared annually by the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction and the Ministry of Health and documents developments in the field of illegal drugs. The last report, which covers the epidemiological situation in 2023, deals, among other things, with the political and legal framework as well as measures to reduce demand. This documentation is an important part of the fight against drug crime in Austria. Further information on the drug markets and drug-related topics can be found in the annual reports, which are also available as PDF social ministry.gv.at.
The arrests of these suspected drug dealers highlight the importance of identifying and prosecuting illegal drug traffickers to protect society from the dangers of drug trafficking. The authorities are doing everything they can to hold other buyers and dealers accountable in order to effectively combat drug crime in Austria.
