Roofing fire in Gerresheim: Fire brigade prevents worse!

On Friday morning, June 6, 2025, there was a roof structure fire in a residential building in Gerresheim, a district of Düsseldorf. The alarm took place around 9:45 a.m. after the caller reported smoke development. Several units of the fire brigade and the emergency services were immediately alerted. The emergency services arrived only a few minutes after the alarm on the scene, which was located on Liconstrasse, and immediately started the measures for fire fighting.

A special group was sent to the building for fire fighting, while two turntable ladders were positioned in front of the building. By quickly intervening the fire brigade, the fire was brought under control after about 40 minutes. The subsequent extinguishing work included the control of the roof to delete embers that may have had to lead to a renewed outbreak of the fire.

injuries and property damage

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. However, a person had inhaled smoke. An investigation showed that no hospital treatment was required. Stadtwerke Düsseldorf parked the power supply to the affected building, while all parts of the building, with the exception of the fire apartment, could be used further. Around 40 emergency services were involved in the measures and returned to their locations after about three hours.

The criminal police have now taken over the investigation into the cause of the fire. The fire in the roof area of a residential building is a typical example of fires where fast action is decisive. According to statistics from fire protection in Germany, which are updated regularly, such fire events can be significantly reduced by preventive measures. However, comprehensive and uniform fire statistics have so far been missing, which makes it difficult to analyze and improve fire protection. Further information on fire protection statistics can be found on the Feuertrutz website.

The fire brigade in Düsseldorf has thus recorded a further successful operation in which a risk to residents could quickly be neutralized. The quick reaction of all involved forces has contributed significantly to avert greater damage and avoid injuries.
