A milestone for Pinkafeld: new university of applied sciences campus in sight
The University of Applied Sciences campus in Pinkafeld is taking impressive shape after a year of intensive construction work. The shell construction, which started in November 2023, shows growth that covers more than two football fields in usable space. State Governor Hans Peter Doskozil described the project as a “milestone for the local university infrastructure” and a significant stimulus for southern Burgenland. This expansion is important not only for the training of future specialists, but also for healthcare in the region.
The spatial expansion of the campus will cover 14,675 square meters, which will provide space for new courses in the medical and technical field. Doskozil emphasizes that the expansion will strengthen research and innovation in Pinkafeld. This location is further supported by its close connection to the country's most modern clinic, which is located in Oberwart. The planned health axis will therefore contribute to the attractiveness of the educational location.
Extensive construction plans
The project is being implemented by Landesimmobilien Burgenland GmbH and includes a total of nine buildings. There are a variety of rooms such as practice and seminar rooms, laboratories, lecture halls, administrative offices as well as a public library and a cafeteria. This infrastructure will not only expand FH Burgenland's existing offerings, but also enable the introduction of new bachelor's and master's degree programs, including radiology technology and biomedical analytics. This is a crucial step towards strengthening and securing health care in Burgenland, Doskozil continued.
Completion of the campus is scheduled for the second half of 2026, and the realization of this extensive construction project will create numerous highly qualified jobs.
Health care perspectives
The immediate proximity to the newly built Health Burgenland Clinic and the health and nursing school in Oberwart creates a strong southern Burgenland axis in the area of health and care. Doskozil reports that a feasibility study on the establishment of an independent private medical university in Burgenland is currently in progress. This development would be a further building block for improving health care in the region.
The ongoing measures and information provision around the development of the campus and the associated programs show how committed the stakeholders are to advancing higher education in the region. Further information can be found at www.meinkreis.at.
