Christian Kern excludes political comeback despite praise from Doskozil
The former Chancellor Christian Kern recently made it clear that he has no interest in starting a comeback in politics. Despite the positive mentions of his person by the Burgenland state party leader Hans Peter Doskozil, who announced during a state party conference in Eisenstadt that Kern as a chancellor would be a "way, good decision", Kern does not take these words seriously.
Kern described this statement by Doskozil as "friendly recognition". He emphasized that the chancellor position was not easy to allocate and considered the message as a humorous remark. "You have to be very humorous to take this seriously," said the ex-chancellor.
political backing of decision -makers
In his speech, Doskozil spoke about the importance of a stable government for Austria. He noticed that it didn't matter what political decisions are made and that the past few years had shown how decisive the leadership is in the government. Therefore, it would be "most likely a wise decision" if Kern would again take over the office of Chancellor, said Doskozil.Despite these praising words, Kern is determined not to strive for a comeback. In interviews, he confirmed that he did not plan to return at the head of the SPÖ. This was also clear in his statements to media such as the Kleine Zeitung and the Standard where he clarified his intentions.
The clear cancellation of a return to politics comes at a time when a discussion about the future of the SPÖ and possible leadership changes is just gaining driving. Kern, who previously wore great responsibilities in politics, attaches great importance to the fact that he has left this section of his life.
The exchange between Doskozil and Kern has attracted some attention in the political landscape of Austria, but Doskozil's interest does not necessarily have to indicate a realistic chance of a comeback. Rather, it reflects the uncertainties and strategies within the party and the efforts after a strong leadership in challenging times.
