A look at the heptathlon
The heptathlon, which is an Olympic athletics discipline for women, consists of seven events: 100 meter hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200 meter run, long jump, javelin throw and 800 meter run. It is held as a two-day competition and has existed in its modern form since 1981. Historically, in the early days, female athletes from the GDR dominated the discipline.
