Amar Dedic: Return to Salzburg - but the farewell is approaching again!
Amar Dedic, the 22-year-old right-back, ended his time at FC Red Bull Salzburg after almost a decade and switched to Olympique Marseille. The player who has been playing for the Salzburg since he was 14 and has gone through all age groups of the Red Bull Football Academy is transferred for a transfer fee of 1.5 million euros. This decision was made in winter 2025 when the new head coach Thomas Letsch struck some dissatisfied players out of the squad. Dedic was determined to take the next step in his career.
In his time at Salzburg, the defender scored eight goals in 95 missions and gave 15 templates to win a championship title and a trophy. He started his time at the Red Bulls in the academy, where he won three titles and played 50 games for FC Liefering. When looking for more playing time in a larger league, they decided to transfer to Marseille, where the club is currently taking second place in Ligue 1. Rouven Schröder, sports director of Red Bull Salzburg, emphasized the support of talented players in order to play in the highest leagues, which makes the change Dedic a logical step.
Review and return option
Although Dedic had no sustainable success in Ligue 1, Salzburg secured a buyback option of over 100,000 euros. According to reports, the association plans to bring it back. However, Dedic does not appear in the squad for the FIFA Club World Cup and was instead registered with the Austrian Football Association (ÖFB) for the National League.
market situation in football
The transfer market in football is dynamic. While some clubs like Bayern Munich invest high transfer fees, the financial balance between clubs often remains a challenge. In the 2024/2025 season, the Bundesliga clubs recorded a transfer deficit because the expenditure exceeded the income.
Beyond the independent transfers of players, the dynamics in the football market also illustrate the greatly varying transfer fees. Only a few clubs, such as Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 with the record loss of Neymar, can apply three-digit million amounts. Despite the high expenses, the sporting success is not always in direct connection with the financial investments, which makes complexity visible.
With Dedic and several innovations in the squad, the future of Red Bull Salzburg and the individual players will remain exciting.
