150 years of Praskac: A festival full of flowers and tradition in Tulln!

The Praskac gardening dynasty will celebrate its 150th anniversary on June 15, 2025. Numerous customers and guests of honor gathered for this occasion in the Praskac plant area in Tulln, including the state governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. The anniversary was honored with a special celebration event that offered various highlights, including the christening of the anniversary rose “Arzduke Franz Ferdinand” and the unveiling of the impressive flower sculpture “PrasKatz”.

The “PrasKatz” is planted with around 12,000 summer flowers and is one of the most photographed flower objects in Austria. Every year, this sculpture, which is built on a 12-ton steel frame, is painstakingly designed by several employees. The idea for this work of art came about in 2007 and has been attracting the admiration of passers-by ever since. Every year the design is reimagined, adding to the popularity of the structure that has fascinated many garden lovers.

Festival program and attractions

The festival program began at 10 a.m. and offered a wide range of activities from children's craft stations to a strawberry stand and special offers in the plant area. The official opening was celebrated at 11 a.m. by Wolfgang Praskac and the state governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner. The christening of the anniversary rose and the unveiling of the flower sculpture also took place, accompanied by traditional brass music from the Tulln town band.

The celebration program also included numerous culinary offerings, including grilled chicken, bratwurst, as well as pony rides and alpaca hikes for children. A special incentive for the visitors was the gift of plants that each guest received as part of the celebration.

Praskac as a traditional business

The Praskac family business was founded in 1875 and is now run by the fifth generation. The Praskacs employ around 120 tree nursery specialists on a tree nursery area of ​​around 80 hectares. The company is not only the first tree nursery with an AMA seal of quality, but has also been a partner of “Natur im Garten” for over 20 years, which underlines the focus on sustainability and environmental friendliness.

In recent years there have also been changes in the Austrian garden landscape. The desire for gardens close to nature is growing, and the demand for regional and ecologically produced products is increasing sharply. More and more gardeners are avoiding chemical sprays and fertilizers. In addition, many hobby gardeners are showing a growing interest in biodiversity and designing their gardens as living spaces, which is supported by the ancestors of cultural traditions such as building raised beds. These developments are part of a broader movement that has advocated for environmentally friendly practices and the preservation of ancient crops since the 1970s. desert red.

To round off the celebrations, a free shuttle service was offered between Tullnerfeld train station and the Plant Land to make access to the event easier.
