Slovenia, represented by his Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urged to prudent after the FPÖ has announced that he was constitutionally anchored by the state anthem. This hymn, which was created in the 19th century, historically sailed the region of Styria, which also included areas that belong to Slovenia today. warnings of symbolic consequences
The Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the context of the hymn was ignored and that these steps could endanger the "territorial integrity and sovereignty" of Slovenia. If the hymn text is constitutional law, this would obtain legal importance, which could possibly burden cooperation and relationships between Styria and Slovenia. Gerhard Ruiss, Managing Director of the IG authors, also expressed concerns and described it as legally problematic to write areas that are not belonging to Austria.
The situation is heading, since in the event of a implementation of the plan of the Styrian state parliament, a review by the Constitutional Court (VfGH) must expect. The warnings from Slovenia and the experts make a highlight of the importance of this politically charged topic, which already causes heated discussions on social media.
