Hunsrücker student brings historical organ to life - tones from the barn!
Moritz Jäger, a prospective church musician from Heidenburg in the Hunsrück, has built up an impressive organ in his parents' barn. This organ comes from the Stuttgart University of Music and impresses with 2,500 whistles. In order to save the valuable instrument from the scrap, Jäger acquired the organ for a symbolic price of one euro after being discarded in 2023 and was only of interest to scrap dealers
The dismantling of the organ was a special challenge and lasted two months. During this time, Moritz and his girlfriend carefully documented the tens of thousands of individual parts of the instrument. The transport of the organ went home. In order to make the organ in the barn space, Moritz 'father, Andreas Jäger, helped convert the premises. The structure of the organ itself was over 377 days, and the first tones have already been successfully played. Nevertheless, all 2,500 whistles still have to be voted, which will take a few months.
public relations and concert preparations
Moritz Jäger plans to use the organ for public concerts to modernize the image of the instrument. He informs organ friends worldwide about social media about the progress of his project. He also prepares for his final concert in summer, which he can easily practice from home.
Another highlight in Moritz Jäger's musical career is a change concert that takes place on Saturday, November 2nd in Thalfang. Here he will play the basement organ in the Catholic Church and the silent organ in the Evangelical Church. The concert begins at 6 p.m. in the Catholic Church, followed by a short walk to the second part of the concert at 7:00 p.m. in the Evangelical Church. The theme of the program deals with death, consolation, hope, hope and joy, and the musical pieces mostly include baroque works by composers such as Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Brahms, Sweelinck and Buxtehude. Admission to the concert is free, but donations are welcome, and at the end there is a small drink at the Evangelical Church.
