FPÖ media house: Hafenecker pushes for reforms and compares with the GDR

The FPÖ caused a stir with a press conference in Vienna on March 5, 2025. FPÖ EU MP Petra Steger and NAbg. Mag. Gernot Darmann presented a recording that emphasized both her political views and the clear rejection of censorship and hidden camera recordings. According to Steger, the use of the video is intended exclusively for reporting on the press conference, but no attribution is required as to how OTS reported.

FPÖ General Secretary Christian Hafenecker also went public to introduce the newly founded FPÖ media house. He sharply criticized the reporting by journalists from “Standard” and “Falter” by drawing a comparison to the GDR. Hafenecker said that if journalists had the feeling that they had to work with hidden cameras, this was not necessary: “People are acting here.” He also emphasized that this behavior occurs not only in the FPÖ, but also in the ÖVP, and questioned the objectivity of the media. The FPÖ media house should be further expanded in the future, with all channels being bundled. This was done by SN confirmed.

The FPÖ is also planning its own radio appearance in order to increase its reach and establish a more direct connection to the population. With over 2.4 million citizens reached, Hafenecker emphasized the need for press funding reform in Austria, while implying that the current media landscape may not be functioning optimally.
