Blood pool in a refugee camp: Four dead after attack in Dunkirk
In a shocking incident, on Saturday there was a brutal attack in a refugee camp near Dunkirk, France. As several French media reported, four people were killed, including two security employees and two migrants. In addition, another person was murdered outside the camp. A 22-year-old later stood at the police station in Ghyvelde, which triggered an intensive police operation in the camp after a "individual offender kills". Armed police officers were called to the Mardyck Road on Saturday afternoon (today.at).
memories of past atrocities
While the investigation into this tragic incident is in full swing, today's Holocaust Memorial Day is reminiscent of the unimaginable atrocities of the past. In Nuremberg, work is being carried out in the places of suffering, including the redesign of the Märffeld train station, which served as a collective warehouse. The city of Nuremberg plans to transform this space into a worthy place of remembrance in order to commemorate the victims of the Jungfernhof concentration camp. At the same time, the multimedia memorial project "Memorial Lock of Memory" is launched (museums.nuernberg.de).
Such memory projects are of great importance in order to not only preserve the past, but also to remember the current challenges that refugees and migrants often have to endure. Supporting there is both in the investigation after the attack in Dunkirk and in the activities around the commemoration day, which reminds us of the great losses of humanity.
