New chapter: Women take over the management of the Weimar art festival!

Weimar, Deutschland - An exciting change is imminent! The Kunstfest Weimar, the largest festival for contemporary arts in East Germany, will be led by two dynamic women from 2026. For the first time in the history of the festival, Katharina Germo and Juliane Hahn take over the artistic direction and thus set a strong sign of equality in the cultural world. They follow the long -time director Rolf Hemke, who has shaped the festival for many years.

Katharina Germo, 33 years old and a native of Halle, brings a breath of fresh air with her experience from renowned houses such as the Theater Roxy Birsfelden and the Basel Theater Festival. Since August 2023 she has been the co-director of the Fabriktheater Rote Fabrik in Zurich. Her colleague, 37-year-old Juliane Hahn from Thuringia, has also made a name for herself. From 2020 to 2024 she was the co-manager of the Gessnerallee Theaterhaus in Zurich and is currently responsible for the Politics in the Free Theater in Leipzig as a production manager. Together they will lead the Weimar art festival to a new era!

The Weimar Art Festival was launched in 1990 and is considered one of the first common German-German cultural initiatives. It offers a varied program with numerous premiere and initial surveys as well as projects specially developed for Weimar. The festival not only takes place in Weimar, but also decentrally throughout Thuringia and attracts art lovers from all over the region. With the new management, the art festival will certainly receive new creative impulses and further enrich the contemporary art scene!
