Maibaum set-up in Prater: tradition, music and beer for everyone!
Next Saturday, April 19, 2025, there is a special event in the Vienna Prater: the traditional maypole. The event begins at 3:00 p.m. at the FerrenRadplatz, a popular meeting place in the heart of the city. The 20 meter high maypole is donated by the Pondorfer family from Funtime Handels.M.B.H from Dölsach in East Tyrol. The event is musically framed by the Dölsacher dance music that creates the right mood.
A highlight of the day will be the traditional beer tapping after setting up the maypole, which is carried out by Alexander Nikolai, the district leader of Leopoldstadt (SPÖ). The event is freely accessible for everyone interested, so that young and old can celebrate together.
The festivities in the May Festival
The may festival on the Ferris wheelplatz offers further attractions and takes place in the period from April 25 to May 5, 2024. These festivities are under the motto “Set Sest” and invite you to regional delicacies, freshly tapped beer, spray wine and other specialties from the Styrian region every day. Cozy huts and traditional folk music provide a relaxed atmosphere in which visitors can dance and sing along.
Another highlight of the may festival is the maypole setting, which is planned for April 27 at 5 p.m. Wiesn Emperor Johann I will take part in the ceremony, as will district leader Alexander Nikolai. The Landjugend from Wenigzell will also provide support, and musical entertainment is offered by the outback bradlers and a demonstration of the original shoe platform of the dance group Wenigzell.
a festival for the whole family
Particularly pleasant for visitors is the free entry to both events, which offers an optimal opportunity to enjoy the traditions and the colorful atmosphere in the Vienna Prater. The event for the maypole position on April 19 and the subsequent may festival stand for the community spirit and the joy that shape the Viennese culture.
Visit the maypole and experience the anticipation for the subsequent festivities in the Prater. With numerous attractions and a unique framework, this event becomes an unforgettable experience for everyone.
