Easter traditions in Croatia

Easter in Croatia is not only a travel time, but also a festival full of tradition, culture and mild spring temperatures. Usually Croatia is often evident from its sunny side at Easter, while gray weather prevails elsewhere. The pleasant temperatures invite you to sightseeing, natural excursions and walks through historical old towns. In contrast to the high season, it remains calm at Easter, which enables relaxed experiences with more cultural highlights.

Croatian Easter traditions are varied and deeply rooted in history. The Karwochen processions in Dubrovnik, the Easter celebrations in Varaždin and the Easter mass in the Cathedral of Zagreb are just a few of the impressive events. The tradition of the "Umivanja U Cvijeću" on Palm Sunday, in which olive or palm branches are blessed in churches, also contributes to the festivity. Many Croatians begin Easter Sunday with a service, followed by a feast in which lamb, ham and artistically decorated eggs are served.

With the atmosphere that is exciting and the cultural wealth that this time brings, Croatia offers a unique mix of religious tradition and Mediterranean joie de vivre. Easter is not only a holiday, but also a wonderful opportunity to enjoy nature and discover the cultural treasures of the country.
