Asylum numbers are exploding: FPÖ calls for a radical stop to immigration!

In the Austrian National Council, FPÖ security spokesman NAbg. Hannes Amesbauer describes the current asylum numbers as worrying. In a recent meeting he agreed with the statements that the “asylum brake” propagated by the ÖVP was not having the desired effects. According to Amesbauer, over 21,000 asylum applications were submitted by the end of October 2024 alone, and it is estimated that around 25,000 applications will be submitted by the end of the year. In contrast, there were only around 13,700 applications in 2018 during the term of Interior Minister Herbert Kickl. This makes it clear that the ÖVP under Interior Minister Gerhard Karner processes significantly more applications than under Kickl, which Amesbauer branded as “number trickery”. This information was also provided by Fortress Austria confirmed, where the long-term asylum statistics were analyzed and an increase of 73 percent was found.

ÖVP under criticism

Amesbauer sharply criticized the ÖVP and emphasized that it was responsible for the “massive budgetary burdens” of the last few years. He mentioned specific social, educational and health problems, as well as the increase in crime and security concerns, which he said were linked to high levels of immigration. He also described the situation as “Islamization” and warned of the consequences of social conflicts resulting from illegal immigration. These strong accusations that he made during his speech make it clear that the FPÖ is clearly positioning itself against the government's current asylum policy, while the ÖVP appears to be sticking to a different course.

Amesbauer also called for a comprehensive ban on asylum and rigorous deportations. In his opinion, this can only be achieved by the FPÖ under the leadership of Chancellor candidate Herbert Kickl. "It's about the livelihood of the Austrians. The boat is overfull!", he concluded his argument. The accusation against the government of trivializing its approach is supported by the rapidly increasing number of asylum seekers, which the FPÖ clearly describes as an untenable situation. This is in clear contrast to the jubilant statements made by ÖVP representatives, who obviously want to downplay the situation, which the FPÖ describes as a “mockery of the Austrian population”, as was already the case in a report by APA OTS explained.
