Customs action in Singen: Minimum wage controls uncover violations!

Singing (ots)

On October 17, 2024, German CUSTOMS sent a strong signal as part of a massive, cross-border control operation to check the minimum wage on the A81 motorway! Around 50 customs officers from the Singen main customs office examined the forwarding, transport and logistics industry to ensure that the new legal requirements with a minimum wage of 12.41 euros gross per hour are being met. A clear front against undeclared work and illegal employment!

The campaign, which was coordinated under the impressive umbrella of the European Labor Authority (ELA), received support from employees of the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility (BALM) and the motorway police. Even a representative of the ELA and officials from the Slovak employment agency were on site to accompany these serious controls. A total of 32 companies were scrutinized, while 38 people were interviewed about their working relationships - a candid look behind the scenes!

Shocking discoveries

The measures led to dramatic results: in six cases, the emergency services discovered violations in the areas of minimum wage, employment of foreigners and abuse of benefits. Justifiably, three criminal proceedings and one misdemeanor case were immediately initiated! These crackdowns are part of one of the European Union's largest cross-border inspection operations to date, in which over 3,300 customs officers were mobilized in Germany - supported by delegations from 20 EU member states!

This strong cooperation between Member States shows the strong commitment to combating illegal labor practices. A clear appeal: The minimum wage is not a negotiation point – it must be respected!
