Overath – Tragic drama on the K 38!

Today, Wednesday, October 30th, there was a shocking traffic accident in Overath around 1:45 p.m. in which an 81-year-old driver from Overath lost his life. The fatal collision occurred between a car and a tractor with a trailer, with the driver of the car being so seriously injured in the impact that he died at the scene of the accident.

The tragic incident occurred when a 34-year-old man from Ruppichteroth was driving his tractor and manure trailer on the K 38 towards Burghof. Suddenly the Overather and his Kia drove into oncoming traffic, which led to the dramatic crash. Both vehicles collided without braking and were thrown off the path - the Kia ended up in the ditch, while the tractor tipped over a guardrail and landed on its side in the embankment.

Emergency responders at the scene

Not only the police were alerted, but also the fire department and a rescue helicopter including an emergency doctor to help quickly. The Kia driver, who was trapped in his vehicle, could only be freed with difficulty by the fire department. Despite all the efforts of the emergency services, the Overather tragically died on site. The tractor driver, however, only suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital for outpatient treatment.

The K 38 currently remains completely closed while a traffic accident investigation team from the Cologne police advances the investigation. Tow vehicles are used to remove the accident vehicles and secure them for evidence. On top of that, the question of the extent of the material damage remains uncertain for the time being, while the salvage work is still ongoing. A terrible disaster that shakes the entire region.
