Safe through the darkness: police start bicycle controls!

The dark season has a firm grip! As of now, police and schools in the Verden and Osterholz district are relying on intensive bicycle controls. While the days are getting shorter, many students and road users drive in the dark. A safe movement is a challenge - especially for cyclists who are often on the move without functioning lighting. This can have fatal consequences!

The police inspection plans increased controls on the school routes to uncover dangerous defects in bicycles. The focus is on properly functioning lighting systems: the light must be white for the front, while the rear light shines red. In addition, reflectors on the spokes and pedals are essential! A nightly ride without the right light is not only daring, but also endangers the life of cyclists.

The first preventive control took place on October 22nd at the Verden high school. Here, 147 bicycles and e-scooters were examined-with an alarming result! 63 of these vehicles showed 63 defects! Instead of a warning money, the students received information on repair. So that not enough, the students must then show their repaired bike with the class teachers. A clear call to everyone to write security in road traffic!
