Police show plain language: 381 cycling violations in Osnabrück!

Osnabrück in the focus of bicycle traffic controls

The Osnabrück police carried out a massive inspection of cycling traffic on Monday. Over 60 officers from various departments were deployed to increase safety on the roads and reduce accident-causing behavior. Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., a total of 674 road users, including 546 cyclists, pedelecs and e-scooters, as well as 128 other vehicles, were examined.

Massive violations discovered!

An astonishing result of the controls: a total of 381 violations were discovered! The most common violations were using cell phones while driving, ignoring right-of-way rules and driving on sidewalks without permission. In addition, the officials highlighted a number of increased safety deficiencies: Many cyclists did not comply with lighting requirements or parked their vehicles on bike areas. Particularly explosive: two e-scooters were found to have been tampered with. A 16-year-old raced through the streets on a tuned e-scooter that was tuned to 45 km/h. The express vehicle was confiscated!

Positive feedback from cyclists

The police's actions were not only well received: most of the cyclists who were checked showed understanding and approved the measures. The personal approach by officers patrolling on bicycles was particularly praised. The extensive inspection shows that cycling safety is taken seriously and is necessary to avoid accidents and raise awareness among road users.
