Federal Police secured 36 kg of pyrotechnics at the border - investigations run!

In a spectacular discovery, the federal police ensured a considerable amount of pyrotechnics on Monday morning at Hohenwutzen. As part of the temporary reintroduced border controls, the officials came across a car with Dutch license plates that was checked at the former border crossing.

In the check that took place around 10:30 a.m., the emergency services found several boxes full of fireworks. In total, it was more than 20,000 pieces that had a net weight of over 36 kg of explosive mass. The three inmates, whose age was between 18 and 24 years old, could not submit any import permit or other necessary authorization documents.

Investigations initiated

Because of these serious violations of the Sprensing Act, the young men are now facing investigations. The federal police confiscated all of the pyrotechnics. Such incidents are not only a violation of applicable security regulations, but also potential dangers to the public, especially when you consider that fireworks are often handled without the necessary safety precautions and knowledge.

Despite the confiscation, the three Dutch citizens were able to continue their trip after the police measures were completed. This raises questions of how effective the controls at the borders actually are and whether the existing measures are sufficient to prevent such incidents in the future

The security situation at the limits remains an important topic, especially with regard to illegal trade in pyrotechnics. A comprehensive discussion about the associated dangers and the need for stricter controls could develop because the public is increasingly sensitized, especially before festive occasions in which fireworks play a role.

The federal police thus provide an important contribution to ensuring security at the limits. The creation of consciousness and compliance with the legal provisions are crucial to minimize risks for the population.
