Welcome Tim Gilbert-Lichtenberg: New manager of the Welcome Hotels!

Tim Gilbert-Lichtenberg was introduced as the new Cluster General Manager of the Welcome Hotels Wesel and Dorf Münsterland in Legden. He assumed his position on January 1, 2025 and brings with him a long-standing career in the hospitality industry. Previously, he was General Manager at the Vienna House by Wyndham Ernst Leitz in Wetzlar.

In his professional career, Gilbert-Lichtenberg gained extensive experience in various management positions, including as hotel manager at the Innside by Meliá Frankfurt Ostend and as deputy hotel manager at the Ibis Frankfurt Centrum. He also worked as Cluster Revenue Manager and Pre-Opening Manager at Trip Inn Hotels. He began his career with training as a hotel specialist at the Best Western Hotel Wetzlar, in cooperation with the Best Western Plus Hotel Steinsgarten and the former Best Western Plus Hotel Yacht Club.

Expansion of the welcome hotels

Jürgen von Massow, Chief Operating Officer of Welcome Hotels, highlights Gilbert-Lichtenberg's operational and strategic capabilities. The Welcome Hotels Wesel offer 103 rooms and suites, 12 meeting rooms, two restaurants and a wellness area. The Welcome Hotel Dorf Münsterland in Legden has 131 rooms, suites and apartments, eight conference rooms and a multifunctional hall for up to 1,400 people.

The hotel industry argues that higher wages are not possible because guests are not willing to pay more. Gilbert-Lichtenberg questions this view and emphasizes that long-term benefits could be achieved through higher wages. Another problem is the ongoing rotation of employees between hotels in the same location and the need to offer employees more than other industries.

He emphasizes that salary is essential as a basic framework and that other benefits such as bonuses or bonuses cannot replace low wages. The idea that tips can be viewed as appreciation is unacceptable to Gilbert-Lichtenberg because it does not replace wages. He also mentions the effects of Corona on the hotel industry, as decent wages before the crisis might have retained staff.

He calls for investment in staff before optimizing revenue to ensure the long-term success of the industry and criticizes the mindset that revenue should come first and investment second, which he considers flawed.
