Tamara Tippler ends her skiing career: A chapter full of challenges!
Deeply affected by the developments in her career, Tamara Tippler, the 33-year-old Styrian, announced on Wednesday that she was leaving alpine skiing. The decision came after a challenging comeback that followed the birth of her daughter in September 2023. In an emotional look back, she said that she often had the feeling that she was not wanted at the Austrian Ski Association (ÖSV). “It seemed like I wasn’t welcome since I made the decision to come back,” Tippler said in an interview with the Small newspaper.
Tippler, who began her World Cup career with a debut in 2011 and competed in a total of 129 races, looks back on numerous highlights, but also on the painful reality that she remains without a World Cup victory or medals from the Olympics and World Championships. In recent months, her return has been complicated by health problems, including knee surgery and back problems. Despite the difficulties, she is grateful for the experiences and says: “It was an educational journey with many ups and downs.” Her full focus will now be on her daughter Mia, so that she can devote herself to new challenges outside of skiing, as stated in the ÖSV press release.
An ending full of emotions
Tippler described her time in skiing as her “great passion,” and she found it difficult to close the final chapter of her career. “A lot of things could have been done better,” she said, criticizing the circumstances of her return, which did not offer her the opportunities she had hoped for. Now the two-time Olympian wants to devote herself entirely to motherhood and take on new professional challenges, as she expressed in her resignation statement. This step marks the end of an era for a talented athlete who always remained in the shadows in Alpine skiing, but still experienced many inspiring moments, as she concludes.
