Manny Viveiros: New head coach of the Eisbullen inspires Salzburg!

EC Red Bull Salzburg has brought a new head coach on board with Emanuel “Manny” Viveiros. The 59-year-old Austro-Canadian succeeds Oliver David, who moved to EHC Red Bull Munich. Viveiros brings a wealth of international hockey experience, particularly from his most recent position as coach of the Vancouver Giants in the WHL (Western Hockey League) reports Laola1.

His playing career took him to, among others, VSV and the Austrian national team, where he made a name for himself before ending his playing career at KAC. In addition to his involvement as a player, Viveiros also worked as a coach and sports director at the KAC and from 2011 to 2014 as team manager of the Austrian national ice hockey team. This extensive experience will undoubtedly help him to master the challenges in Salzburg.

Return to Austria

After eleven years in North America, Viveiros is now returning to Austria and sees the coaching job in Salzburg as a “privilege”. He emphasizes that he didn't hesitate when he received the offer. The connection to the Red Bulls is not new for him, as his son Layne played in the organization. This not only shows his personal connection, but also his commitment to further advance Austrian ice hockey reports Salzburg24.

Viveiros plans to use his experience from the Canadian Junior League and the American Hockey League to develop young talent and introduce them to the professional level. Helmut Schlögl, Managing Director Pro, highlights Viveiros’ respectful treatment of players and his ability to create a trusting environment. This is especially important at a time when coaches like Patrick Reimer, who coaches the U18 national team, emphasize how crucial developing young players is to success in ice hockey shows the Sportstunde magazine.

Prospects for the coming season

Preparations for the new season, which begins in mid-September, are already in full swing. Viveiros sees himself up to the challenge and is motivated to lead the team. He aims to build a strong community within the team and at the same time increase the performance of the individual players.

The signing of Viveiros is seen by many as the right step to consolidate EC Red Bull Salzburg's position in Austrian ice hockey and secure future success. With a clear focus on developing young players, his return to Austria could lay the foundation for a promising future.
