A new star in the Formula 1 sky! The 22-year-old New Zealander Liam Lawson will take over the cockpit at Red Bull Racing alongside four-time world champion Max Verstappen from the 2025 season. A change that causes a lot of excitement!
On Wednesday, the separation from Sergio Perez was officially announced - after four years in the service of the world champion team, it's over! Lawson, who already shone as a replacement driver for the injured Daniel Ricciardo in the final races of the 2023 season, will now take up the challenge of driving alongside Verstappen.
A lifelong dream comes true!
"Being announced as an Oracle Red Bull Racing driver is a lifelong dream for me. It's something I've wanted and worked for since I was eight years old," Lawson said in a team statement. His excitement is palpable as the last six races have been crucial in his preparation for this next step in his career.
"I'm super excited to be working with Max and learning from a world champion. I have no doubt I will benefit from his expertise. I can't wait to get started!"

Team boss Christian Horner is convinced of Lawson: “His performances have shown that he is a real racer who is not afraid to compete with the best and stay on top at the same time.” Lawson follows in the footsteps of legends such as Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, who also emerged from the Red Bull Junior program.
“It is undoubtedly a huge challenge to drive alongside Max, a four-time champion and one of the greatest drivers Formula 1 has ever seen, but I am sure Liam is up to the challenge and can deliver great results for us next year,” continued Horner.
