Kellen Moore is taking over as the new head coach of the New Orleans Saints!
Kellen Moore, the former offensive coordinator of the Philadelphia Eagles, will be the new head coach of the New Orleans Saints. The team announced this shortly after Moore led the Eagles to win the impressive Super Bowl LIX with a 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Moore, who previously played as a backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys and Detroit Lions in his career, will now take over responsibility for the Saints, succeeding interim coach Darren Rizzi. Rizzi took over the reins after Dennis Allen was fired and won three of eight games the rest of the season.
The challenge in New Orleans
In his new role, Moore will be the 12th head coach in franchise history. Saints general manager Mickey Loomis praised him as an “outstanding communicator with a clear vision for the team.” This is the 36-year-old's first position as head coach after successfully working in Dallas as a quarterback coach and then as offensive coordinator. He has led offensively strong teams with the Cowboys and Chargers, and especially in 2024, his Philadelphia offense resulted in the second-most rushing yards in the league.
However, the Saints find themselves in a difficult situation. They haven't made the playoffs in four years and are currently about $60 million over the salary cap. A crucial question will be what to do with quarterback Derek Carr, whose contract hit is $51.4 million next season. So a big challenge awaits Kellen Moore this offseason as he tries to get the team back to winning ways laola1.at and si.com report.
