Emotional farewell injury: Leyhe shines on the last jump in Lahti!
An emotional weekend for the ski jumpers in Lahti: Stephan Leyhe ended his career in an impressive way. In his last World Cup competition he collected five more points when he finished 25th and was cheered by his teammates. Leyhe, who was a reliable figure in the German team for many years, is ready for new paths after 27 years of ski jumping and a World Cup victory because he plans to study architecture, as he said in an interview with Sports show revealed.
Fight for overall victory
While Leyhe said goodbye, the Austrian athlete Jan Hörl was looking for points for the overall ranking. After a weak first jump that catapulted him to 30th place, he showed an impressive performance in the second round and jumped to 15th place. “This is Lahti, a lot can happen there,” said Hörl in the interview. However, the overall lead seems difficult for him to achieve as he is 114 points behind championship leader Daniel Tschofenig, who finished seventh in Lahti, as the Vienna newspaper reported.
The day's victory went to the outstanding Slovenian Anze Lanisek, who left the competition behind with jumps of 131 meters in the first round and consistent performances in the final. The Austrians, led by Stefan Kraft, took the place on the podium and made the list of participants for the next competition in Planica exciting. Manuel Fettner also finished in a thankless fourth place, just 0.6 points behind the Pole Pawel Wasek. “It hurts quite a bit,” explained the 39-year-old as he looked at the overall ranking. Maximilian Ortner and Stephan Embacher finished eighth and 21st, while Michael Hayböck came 24th.
