Emma Felbermayr: Triumph at the F1 Academy in Montreal!

Emma Felbermayr from Upper Austria won the second race of the F1 Academy in Montreal on June 14, 2025, marking her first podium finish in the women's racing series. The 18-year-old, who is supported by the Sauber Formula 1 racing team, prevailed in an exciting race against the British Ella Lloyd and the Dutch Nina Gademan. Previously, Felbermayr's best finish was fifth place at the race in Shanghai.

A total of three races will take place in Montreal due to a canceled race in Miami. While Felbermayr was able to achieve a podium finish in the first session, this was later revoked. The reason for the withdrawal was that her car (start number 5) was more than 0.4 kg below the required minimum weight of 603 kg.

Career and advancement in motorsport

Felbermayr's passion for motorsport began at the age of seven when she started karting. She subsequently took part in her first national race in the Micro Class and progressed through the Mini and Junior classes. At the age of 13, she advanced in international racing and placed second in the ADAC Ladies Cup. Her career also included participation in WSK karting as well as in world and European championships.

In the current season, Felbermayr is driving not only in the F1 Academy, but also in the 2025 Formula Winter Series and the Spanish F4 Championship with Rodin Motorsport, which underlines her versatility and ambition.

Challenges for women in motorsport

However, over the last five years, Formula 1 has seen an increase in female fans, with 40% of the female fanbase being new. This development shows that there is a growing interest in women in motorsport and Formula 1 has begun to implement programs to promote female talent. It also emphasizes that much more needs to be done to overcome social hurdles and ensure equal opportunities.

Felbermayr's victory in Montreal could serve as an inspiring example for many young female drivers and shows that motorsport is slowly changing. The F1 Academy is recognized as a clear sign of investment in access and support for women in motorsport.
