Brignone triumphs again: Sestriere Ski World Cup thrills!
In Sestriere, Federica Brignone remains in a class of her own! The Italian ski racer triumphs again in the giant slalom, securing her fourth victory of the season and the 34th overall World Cup victory of her impressive career. After a solid fourth place in the first round, Brignone put in an outstanding performance in the second run and overtook Lara Gut-Behrami from Switzerland, who ended up in second place, 0.77 seconds behind. Alice Robinson of New Zealand completes the podium, 0.79 seconds behind. These results are crucial for the course of the Giant Slalom World Cup, as Robinson's gap at the top is now shrinking significantly laola1.at reported.
The best ÖSV runner of the day is Julia Scheib, who took fifth place (+1.61 seconds). But the way there wasn't exactly easy: a serious mistake in the first run prevented a possible half-time lead. “I'm very satisfied, it wasn't easy,” said the Styrian after the race. Her strong performance is followed by unpleasant news for the American ski star Mikaela Shiffrin. She was unable to qualify in the second giant slalom and therefore missed the second round. The day was just as disappointing for the remaining Austrian athletes. Stephanie Brunner took 14th place (+2.38 seconds), while Katharina Liensberger (25th place/+4.03 seconds) was also unable to convince. The hopes for the upcoming slalom race on Sunday still remain.
