Amazon stops reviews for Merkel book: unusual activities?
A surprising turn to Amazon: Anyone who is now trying to evaluate the book "Freedom. Memories 1954-2021" by Angela Merkel will find a sudden restriction. The online giant has deactivated the evaluation function, possibly due to "unusual review activities". The memoirs of the former Chancellor are currently with an average rating of 3.5 out of 5 stars.
A closer look at the ratings shows that proud 33 percent of the reviewers of the biography only grant a star. Interesting: Many of these critics did not bought the book on Amazon, which could be another valid reason for the provider, the possibility of working for the time being. Despite this flood of negative comments that describe the book as "completely disappointing" and "waste of time", this does not reduce the sales success: the first edition of 400,000 copies has already been out of stock.
top success despite criticism
The sales figures of the Kiepenheuer & Witsch publisher speak another language. The subsequent impression with 200,000 other copies will be retired from December 5 in order to be able to cover the great demand. The last word does not seem to be spoken yet, while the public looks excitedly looking at future developments. Three years after her retreat from German politics, the CDU politician with her over 700-page biography causes a stir.
