Turning point for nurses: new regulation for difficulty work decided!
A new glimmer of hope for nurses: The parties ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS have decided in the latest government agreement to include the nursing professions in the heavy work regulation. This decision means that nursing staff will receive easier access to heavy work pension in the future. This was a central concern of the unions, including the Göd Health Union and the Younion-Team Health, who fought for this change for years. Edgar Martin, chairman of the Younion, said that a reform was long overdue because the working conditions in nursing are gradually unbearable.
The current regulation in heavy work is criticized by trade unionists as inadequate. In particular, it is criticized that systematic loads, which are common in care facilities - are not fully recorded - both physical and psychological challenges for night shifts. Reinhard Waldhör from the Göd health union said concerns that many nurses sacrifice their health for years, while they encounter bureaucratic hurdles to prove their difficult work. Therefore, the unions not only require the admission of all nursing staff to the regulation, but also a fairer calculation of the heavy working hours on an hourly basis.
important changes announced
In order to increase the pressure on politics, numerous actions were organized last year, including a nationwide action day at hospitals and nursing facilities. These efforts have led to some federal states, such as Carinthia and Lower Austria, have already made corresponding decisions. Now the extended heavy work regulation is part of the government program, and the next step is facing the consent of the NEOS, as Gesundheitskasse.at reports.
also of importance is the obligation to report employers to report the employees concerned from the age of 40 for men and 35 years of life for women to the health insurance institution by the end of February of the following calendar year. This is crucial for the correct recording of difficult work to ensure that the employees concerned can assert their claims and are not lost in the bureaucratic mills.
