Mold alarm at the Alland middle school: community failure in times of crisis!

At the most recent local council meeting in Alland on November 5, 2024, there were heated arguments between the SPÖ-UBA and the ÖVP regarding the sanitary conditions of the middle school. The emergency request from the SPÖ-UBA referred to the catastrophic consequences of the flood events on 14/15. September, which led to serious mold infestation in the school's basement area. The ÖVP, as the majority faction, rejected the urgency of the application because it was not the municipality of Alland alone that was responsible, but the middle school association, which also includes the municipalities of Heiligenkreuz and Klausen-Leopoldsdorf, as stated by latest news reported.

The SPÖ-UBA raised the concerns of concerned parents who pointed out that effective drying measures were not taken seven weeks after the flood, leading to mold growth and health concerns. “It is irresponsible that nothing has happened during this time, while the private sector reacts immediately,” said a representative of the SPÖ-UBA. The situation deteriorated noticeably as no drying equipment was installed and the floor coverings were not removed. In view of these grievances, the members of the SPÖ-UBA decided to leave the meeting because they could not work productively for the community. Demands of the SPÖ-UBA

The SPÖ-UBA immediately called for drying and mold removal measures to be initiated in order to protect the health of the students and the building structure. Despite repeated references to the urgency of the situation, the ÖVP refused to put the motion up for discussion. The SPÖ-UBA has signaled that it is prepared to repeat the meeting within a week in the hope that the ÖVP will take the issue seriously and no longer avoid the discussion. “When it comes to children’s health, we are all responsible!” emphasized the SPÖ-UBA, which underlines the urgency of this matter.
