The focus: our rights, our future, now!
Laimgrubengasse 10, 1060 Wien, Österreich - On December 10th, the international day of human rights will be celebrated, which draws attention to the basic and universal rights of all people. This special day was first launched in 1950 and aims to raise awareness of the ongoing violations of human rights worldwide. In a statement by the ÖBVP it is emphasized that the protection of human rights is closely linked to mental health. "The protection of human rights is crucial for mental health. Without freedom, equality and social justice, people's well-being cannot be guaranteed," explains ÖBVP President Barbara Haid. Shocking reports on peoples, war crimes and discrimination make it clear that pressing measures are necessary to promote and defend compliance with these rights. This was already laid down in the general declaration of human rights in 1948, which proclaims an inalienable right to freedom, security and social protection for everyone ( ots.at ).
human rights and mental health
In the general explanation of human rights, which was ratified by the United Nations General Assembly, it is made clear that all people, regardless of race, gender or social status, are entitled to the same rights. These rights are not negotiable! They are the basis for peace and justice. According to the United Nations, freedom and security are essential aspects for the well -being of people and the maintenance of social peace. This year's motto, "our rights, our future, now", underlines the need to actively realize human rights and not only consider it as a future goal ( Unric.org ).
The International Human Rights Day acts as an important dunning call for governments worldwide to work for human rights. Especially in times of crisis, ensuring access to psychotherapeutic help for victims of human rights violations is of central importance. Psychotherapy plays a crucial role in supporting vulnerable groups and promoting healing processes. In a climate of injustice and lack of freedom, we have to make it clear that compliance with human rights is not negotiable and each one can make a contribution to their protection.
