Torsten Schäfer from the German Travel Association (DRV) reports that the bookings for 2024 took place much earlier in 2023. The great demand could even be exceeded this year!

The big German tour operators are enthusiastic: at Schauinsland-Reisen there are twice as many pre-bookings for the 2025 summer season compared to the previous year. TUI Germany observes an unprecedented trend: vacationers often book their trips immediately after returning from last summer vacation. The formula "Relax, Return and Rebook" could not be more suitable!

Early booker discounts and advantages

Early booker benefit from tempting discounts of up to 50 percent, depending on the region and the organizer. The selection of flights and hotels is greater, which is particularly important for families with school -age children. But be careful: if you book early, you have to commit yourself early. Diseases or job loss could thwart the plans, but travel cancellation insurance could help to avoid high cancellation fees. Flex tariffs offer additional security, but usually only allow rebookings up to a few weeks before departure.

Last minute offers are tempting, but DRV spokesman Schäfer warns: Booking at short notice does not automatically mean cheap. The best offers are often gone, especially during the holiday season. The early bird discounts vary greatly, with Schauinsland trips and the tour offer the best conditions by the end of January. In popular destinations such as Turkey and Egypt, discounts can be achieved up to 45 percent!

An analysis by HolidayCheck shows that early booking can actually save money. A model family would have paid around 3,900 euros for a one-week vacation on the Turkish Aegean Coast in November 2023, while the price increase in April 2024 to over 5,300 euros-a huge difference of 1,400 euros! So if you are planning cleverly, you can not only look forward to your vacation, but also save a lot.
