TikTok on the verge of extinction: last hope in the fight against the ban!

In a dramatic legal dispute, the popular video app TikTok is on the brink of a ban in the USA. The US Supreme Court could be the last hope for the platform, which could be forced by a new law to be sold by January 19, 2025. Otherwise, TikTok will be banned from the US app stores. This volatile situation intensifies after a federal appeals court decided to uphold the law that classifies TikTok as a potential threat to national security. According to the ruling, Chinese authorities could access American user data, raising numerous privacy concerns, such as t3n.de reported.

The fight in court

The operators of TikTok, which is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, then filed an urgent application with the Supreme Court to avert the impending ban. Their goal is to obtain an injunction against the law, arguing that the legal basis for a ban cannot be sufficiently proven. They further insist that the law violates freedom of expression. TikTok says it has around 170 million active users in the US, which would make the economic and social impact of a ban enormous, as in Black Forest messenger was reported.

A possible postponement by President Joe Biden is conceivable if promising sales negotiations take place by the deadline. Previous attempts to impose a ban on TikTok failed. Currently, the situation could take additional turns with a possible return of Donald Trump to the presidency, as he had already tried to ban TikTok in the past, but later changed his mind and promised to save the platform if re-elected.

The existing problems for TikTok could also encourage competition in the social media world. Apps like Instagram and YouTube already have their own formats that compete directly with TikTok and could benefit from exclusion from the platform, which would likely significantly increase the user base of these services.
