Viennese youth parliament: Children demand more participation for their future!

The city of Vienna is a strong sign of the participation of the youth! With the swing of the third Viennese child and youth parliament, which recently began in the musical center, 90 youth delegates and 235 children are involved. They are decisive on the new children's and youth strategy 2025-2030, which is based on the wishes and suggestions of over 2,000 children and adolescents surveyed, as is emphasized in a report by Jung.gv.at This parliament is not just a political forum, but a passionate commitment of young people who want to actively shape the future of Vienna.

The youth parliament and the future strategy

Vice Mayor Christoph Return opened the meeting and encouraged the young participants: "You are now the architects, the screenwriters, the composers of this city." The survey, which brought young people the topics of climate protection, security and leisure activities, shows that 86 percent of the respondents feel good in Vienna, but also contribute clear suggestions for improvement, for example for more greening and a better public transport offer. Marina Hanke, youth spokeswoman, emphasizes that the ideas of the young people are indispensable for future urban politics and that their voices are crucial for a child -friendly society.
In nine committees, the delegates exchange ideas about the survey results and develop concrete goals in areas such as education, environment and participation before confronting the city government with their knowledge in the spring of 2025.

But these are not just empty words! The city of Vienna plans to provide a total of one million euros for children and youth projects based on the proposals of the young citizens, as Mayor Ludwig emphasizes in his explanation. In connection with the children's and youth parliament, this will be a huge step for democratic participation, since young people are included directly in decisions that affect their lives. "The city of Jung's Vienna is not a one -day project," says Jürgen Czernohorszky Jürgen City Councilor and promises: "We will incorporate the interests of children into all political areas." This becomes a call to actively participate in the design of the urban environment and quality of life, so that a child -friendly Vienna can also be a climate -friendly Vienna, as Vice Mayor Birgit Hebein underlines.
