Christmas for everyone: celebrate together instead of being alone!
Christmas – a time of celebration and community. But what if you're alone? In Schleswig-Holstein there are numerous offers to bring lonely people together on Christmas Eve. Loud NDR The Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO), the German Red Cross (DRK) and various church communities organize numerous events that offer people an opportunity to spend the festival in company. Especially for many who have felt loneliness in recent years, there is a selection of Christmas parties that invite you to connect and celebrate together.
Celebrations together and warm invitations
The highlights include a Christmas service in the Resurrection Church in Heide with potato salad and sausages, but also a long-standing tradition of the AWO Heide, which organizes a festive meal on Christmas Eve for all the lonely and needy. According to Pastor Andra Bock, who leads the service, the focus should be on eating together to promote a feeling of community. At the AWO there are, among other things, cabbage rolls and Christmas lectures, which offer everyone involved a warm welcome, even if they are often fully booked. Every opportunity will be taken to point out that anyone who wants to come spontaneously will not be turned away.
But what would Christmas be without festive food? How Delicious reported, a culinary highlight of the German Christmas celebration remains the popular potato salad with sausages, which will be found on many festive tables again this year. Over 36 percent of respondents prefer to eat simple and down-to-earth food on December 24th, while going bigger on the following days. Traditional dishes such as roast goose or duck follow in popularity. Above all, Germans are traditional in their eating habits - only 18 percent change their menu every year.
The loneliness at Christmas is often noticeable, but the diverse offerings give many people the opportunity to share this time with others. Festive food takes on a new meaning when it brings people together and opens hearts. It is particularly important to celebrate together and share the feeling of not being alone.
