Revolution in Bureaucracy: Freedom for SMEs from July 2025!

According to today's Council of Ministers, the Austrian government has put together a comprehensive package of measures to strengthen small and medium-sized companies. The core of the package is the increase in the basic flat rate to 220,000 euros and percentage adjustments up to 15 percent by 2026. This is considered significant relief for companies that can expect less bureaucracy and administrative effort. Chancellor Christian Stocker (ÖVP) emphasized that this package should help to secure jobs and to strengthen Austria as a business location. An additional highlight is the liberation of all N1 vehicles from the standard consumption tax (Nova), which will make company cars significantly cheaper, such as the Kleine Zeitung reported.

Another point in the planned reforms is the abolition of the proof of proceedings for purchases up to 35 euros, which should be relieved for consumers. Franz Schellhorn, State Secretary for Deregulation, commented that there will continue to be a central point of contact for bureaucracy and that the standardization of the application should have priority. Schellhorn, who previously founded the Liberal Thinktank Agenda Austria, critically commented on the current status of liberalism in Austria, which in his opinion develops in a state socialist direction. He realizes that freedom in the country is increasingly under pressure and that society is increasingly asking for state support, which it perceives as threatening.
