Lower Austria celebrates animal rights activists: Lower Austria Animal Welfare Prize 2025!

Niederösterreich, Österreich - Today, the outstanding commitment to animal welfare in Lower Austria is recognized again. The NÖ Tierschutz Prize is awarded for the seventh time and rewardes innovative and sustainable projects by individuals, associations and educational institutions. Animal welfare councilor Susanne Rosenkranz emphasizes that animal welfare work is often hidden and that the helper is put into the spotlight with this price. The best initiatives are awarded with a total prize money of 12,000 euros, the main prize endowed with 6,000 euros. The aim is to emphasize projects that go beyond the legal minimum requirements and promote particularly sustainable and species -appropriate forms of animal husbandry.

The applications are welcome until August 17, 2025 and are evaluated by a jury under the chair of animal welfare expert Maggie Duckfellner from the "Krone". The ceremonial award ceremony will take place on October 2, 2025. There are clear criteria for the evaluation that are defined in a criteria catalog. As The German Tierschutzbund , only nominations are taken into account if animal welfare work is carried out unpaid or on a voluntary basis. In addition, the nominated must be able to identify with the goals of the animal welfare association and demonstrate the necessary expertise, as the Animal Welfare Act demands.

The jury evaluates the projects according to various criteria, including transparency, commitment, effectiveness and innovation. It is also particularly important that the projects have a sustainable and continuous effect and have a positive impact on society and animals themselves. These criteria are intended to ensure that the excellent projects are not only shaped by temporary success, but also make a valuable contribution to animal welfare in the long term.
