Around 20,000 people made an unforgettable statement against the winter darkness by singing in the stadium on Wednesday in Hanover. The event, organized by the Protestant church group in collaboration with partners such as Hannover 96 and Radio 21, transformed the stadium at Maschsee into a place for communal celebration. 16 Christmas carols, from classic to modern melodies, were sung together. The Protestant city superintendent Rainer Müller-Brandes emphasized the importance of this community in the fight against crises and depression: "When almost twenty thousand people sing 'O you cheerful' together, I think something happens. We need this confidence."
A good cause at heart
As in previous years, the proceeds from the event go to a good cause. The profit from ticket sales and donations will benefit the ecumenical food distribution and the HAZ Christmas aid. In 2023, only 12,000 visitors came to the event, while the premiere in 2022 had just 7,000 singers, which shows the immense wave of enthusiasm and solidarity.
