On March 7, 2025, the curtain for the World Women's Day, which is under the motto of the urgent equality of women and men this year. Ulrike Nittmann, women's spokeswoman for the Viennese FPÖ, emphasizes that this day should be superfluous in a fairer society. Politics is required to create the framework conditions for real equality: women still earn less than men, are disproportionately involved in unpaid care and are strongly underrepresented in management positions. Violence against women remains an urgent problem that urgently needs to be combated. Nittmann demands that equality is not only a question of individual engagement, but must also be ensured by legal and structural changes. The rights of women won should not be endangered by social declining, according to the clear appeal by Nittmann.

UN World Women's Conference: A sad summary

At the same time, the UN women's organization and women remind us against the background of the upcoming UN Women's Rights Commission in New York that many of the decisions were still not achieved by the World Women's Conference in Beijing 30 years ago. Director Sima Bahous emphasizes that there are major challenges despite progress. Millions of girls are excluded from school education worldwide and are exposed to practices such as genital mutilation and forced marriage that urgently need to end. Lisa Paus, the Federal Minister of Women in Germany, speaks of a "bitter cultural struggle against equality" and is concerned about the erosion of the rights already won. The World Women's Day and the upcoming Equal Pay Day are not only a signal for the need for equality, but also a call to act, to ensure the survival and strengthening of girls' rights worldwide, according to the common message of Nittmann and the UN representatives this year.
