Drug burning in Damascus: New Syria shocks the world!

In a dramatic step, the new rulers in Syria destroyed massive amounts of drugs on Wednesday, including shocking one million pills of the amphetamine -like stimulant Captagon. This destruction took place in the courtyard of a building of the former Syrian security apparatus in the capital Damascus, where a video journalist from the AFP news agency watched the fire. "We found a large amount of capagon, about a million pills," confirmed a representative of the new government who recently fought for power.

The drug discovery not only included the pink captagon pills, but also cannabis and the pain medication Tramadol. According to AFP research, Captagon trade was so great during the rule of Bashar al-Assad that Syria had become the largest drug state in the world. Captagon represented the country's most important export goods and thus exceeded all legal exports. Saudi Arabia is the largest market for this drug, which is used by the rich elite and serves as a stimulating means for workers to withstand the hard work requirements, the Tagesspiegel reported.

The motivation behind the destruction

The destruction of the drug stocks is part of the efforts of the new rulers to combat drug crime in Syria. An employee of the new security forces announced that the drug bearing was discovered to protect Syrian society and to interrupt the smuggling routes used by the former rulers to make profits. This happens after the Islamist militia Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) took control of Damascus almost two and a half weeks ago and ended the decades of rule from Assad's family. The new governors are now faced with the task of reorganizing and rebuilding the country that has been torn over almost 14 years, while trying to tackle the drug problem, like Oe24 and report.
