On August 31, 2025, a 79-year-old hotelier in Wattens, Tyrol, was the victim of a brutal robbery, which took place around 10:15 p.m. in the private rooms of his hotel. Two hooded perpetrators penetrated the premises and overwhelmed him with massive violence to get cash. After the attack, the perpetrators fled cash with a previously unknown sum. The seriously injured hotel owner was able to choose the emergency call himself and was then hospitalized. The police search has so far been unsuccessful, while the search for the perpetrators is running. The two perpetrators were described as follows: the first was male, between 35 and 40 years old, about 178 cm tall and weighed between 85 and 90 kg. He had a pale face and a striking scar on the left corner of the mouth. He was dressed in a black hooded jacket, black pants and white gloves. The second perpetrator also wore a black hoodie together with black fiber pants.
Background of the raid
This incident is not the first attack on innkeepers in the region. According to the current reporting from meinzirk.at, violent crime in Tyrol has increased, which may be due to an increased stress situation within the industry. This leads to a worrying trend that hotel operators are increasingly targeting raids. In the police crime statistics (PKS), the increasing tendency in violent crime is documented, which serves as the basis for strategic measures by the security forces.
The Federal Criminal Police Office covers such incidents and takes into account not only the statistical figures, but also social influences and legal changes in the analysis. These aspects are significant for planning preventive measures to combat crime in Austria.
In this context, it is important that the public remains attentive and reports such as that of OE24 and Meinzärb. Awareness of such incidents can help increase security in the region. While the authorities are therefore dependent on cooperation with the population, a growing distrust of crime in society is noticeable.
